CHAPTER TEN
Mercury Minorâs solitary sun was high in the sky by the time Mohini and her cyborg returned to the modified freighter. They closed the vesselâs doors and retracted the ramp.
She pressed her form against his. The tension building within her dissipated.
He lowered his head. She kissed him hard, enthusiastically. Their tongues tangled and twisted. The effervescence of his nanocybotics added to her excitement.
They were alone. No one was watching her. The expectations of others fell off her shoulders, and she embraced her cyborg, ravishing him with her mouth, conveying her need with her lips, with the arching of her back, the push of her breasts against his body armor-clad chest.
He cupped her ass, lifting her off the floor. Her booted feet dangled in the air.
She curved her hands over his nape, relishing the contrast of smooth skin and soft hair. For her, the journey had begun. She was no longer a guardian. She was merely a female, the mate of the male holding her.
He broke their kiss and then rested his forehead against hers. The heat of his breath wafted over her cheeks. His eyes glowed with need.
âWe should continue this later.â Regret lined his voice. âBeings are waiting for us to depart.â He lowered her once more.
She leaned against him for five, six heartbeats. âThen we should depart.â She forced herself to draw away from him, to walk along the hallway to the bridge. âI claim the captainâs chair.â
Every excursion off-planet had featured flying time, but sheâd never flown a ship she had complete control over.
âWeâll share the captainâs chair.â He scooped her into his arms and rushed onto the bridge.
The main viewscreen showed an image of the landing site. The control panels flashed with information, including specs and the status of the systems.
Her cyborg sat in the center seat and set her on his lap.
âThis seating arrangement canât be comfortable for you.â She wiggled.
He hardened. The bulge in his body armor pressed against her garment-covered ass.
âIt will be comfortable when you stop moving.â He strapped one of his arms around her waist. That prevented her from teasing him further.
âSystems checks first.â She recited her previous trainersâ instructions.
It took a few moments to refamiliarize herself with the systems.
By the time that was done, Grin had already completed the checks.
âYouâre faster than I am because youâre part machine.â That excuse sounded feeble to her own ears. âEverything seems normal. Our route has been plotted.â Her cyborg had entered that also. âIâm starting the engines.â
That step was carried out without incident.
The console vibrated under her palms.
âAre we ready for takeoff?â Her uncertainty pushed her to seek her cyborgâs reassurance. It had been over a solar cycle since she piloted a ship. She worried she was forgetting parts of the process.
âWeâre ready.â Grin placed his palms beside hers on the controls. âWeâll do this together, my female.â
She wouldnât be the sole being responsible for their flight. Mohini relaxed.
Her cyborg was with her.
She guided the modified freighter upward slowly, carefully. An air current hit them.
